Why I Read

I read because it’s an experience. And with every book it’s a different experience. When I read my mind goes on a journey to places I’ve never been or to places where I can never actually go.  Reading allows me to escape from reality and my everyday routine and stresses. I can relax and let my imagination blossom. I can completely lose myself in a book when I allow myself to dive into the setting of the story and into the character’s mind. True bliss is sitting outside on a sunny day, with just a slight breeze and a good book.

I personally don’t read any specific genre; I just like a wholesome book that keeps me captivated. I think in books of all genres there’s that one character, or group that I can connect with or that evokes some feeling within me. These connections give books an amazing power; the power to make me sad, awed, inspired, thankful, or just simply smile.

I also read because I do believe it makes me smarter. When I read I pick up on phrases, new words, and writing techniques that I later find myself saying or using. When reading I also feel like I gain perspective. I believe we should go through life with an open mind and listen to the thoughts and opinions of others so we can make an educated, unbiased decision on where we stand on issues. Books by different authors can provide us with these varied perspectives. Overall, I think reading simply helps keep life interesting.
